For Those Interested in
Becoming a Health Informatician

Are you considering a career in Health Informatics? If you’re a physician, nurse or other health professional, then addressing the “health” part of ‘health informatician’ is much easier. For people without a health background, and even for those with a good knowledge of Biology and personal experience with the health system, there are many mysteries you will need to unravel to take on the challenge of understanding health care in all its facets.

We have taught many in your position. We noticed the need for a compendium that addressed the needed healthcare knowledge and created a set of books, “The Nature of Clinical Care”. It took us seven years to distill into an easily readable form the essence of health care. What we produced focuses on your needs, and defines all needed vocabulary in the text.

The purpose of the health care is to keep people healthy; The Nature of Clinical Care describes how that’s done and how results are measured.

We have introduced the material in three highly-accessible segments. Volume 1 deals with Physical Medicine, the care of the body and the treatment of its illnesses. Volume 2 addresses the care of the mind. It also broadens the care of the individual body and mind into the care the population as a whole – the objective of Public Health. Volume 3 describes issues everyone needs to consider in interacting with healthcare workers and clinical providers.

We recognize that the health system is not simple; it is one of our most complex organizations, because it must address the complex nature of human beings. To help make the material more manageable, we parsed it into about 100 easy-to-understand but concise chapters. What’s neat is that you can pretty much start anywhere and hop around, according to your interests, study or work requirements.

The material is clear and readable so that you can focus on grasping concepts, rather than memorizing details. In addition, the books incorporate interesting stories, a bit of weird humor, and examples from real life clinical care that make them more engaging. Together, all of this makes The Nature of Clinical Care comprehensive, lucid, absorbing, and an excellent foundation for becoming an informatician.
